Report of an interview with Engineer Amir Sadruddin entitled: Restrictions, obstacles to technology exports
The sorting industry is an important part of the logistics chain, and its importance has increased significantly in recent decades due to the expansion of online commerce and online stores and the increase in market relations between different regions. This industry, relying on the growth of technology, has undergone many changes in order to increase speed and accuracy, and this progress continues, so that recently we have seen the use of artificial intelligence in various sorting sectors in developed countries of the world. Baal Industries Company It is a manufacturer of airport and postal sorting systems in the country, and the CEO of this company believes that if Iran's international relations with other countries were normal, this complex would have the ability to compete with similar companies in global markets. However, this manufacturer is optimistic about the future of the logistics industry in the world and believes that the conditions of this industry in Iran cannot be excluded from this growth.
What part of the sorting industry do you work in and what projects have you completed in this field so far?
We are developing our activities in two areas of sorting: including airport-terminal passenger baggage and postal consignments. In the first area, we have designed, manufactured, installed, commissioned and operated cargo sorting systems in Terminal (No. 1) and (Salam) Imam Khomeini Airport City, and in the second area, we have worked on a postal consignment sorting project with the National Postal Exchange and Sorting Center.
What made you get into the field of sorting postal items?
Since we were working in the field of airport cargo sorting, we have been interested in mechatronics and programming, and in 2018, we started a research and development project in this field. Finally, in 2022, due to the decision made by the Post Company to equip its sorting and exchange center with a sorting system, circumstances arose that allowed us to obtain the opportunity to carry out this project by participating in the relevant tender.
What has been the most important challenge you have faced in this field?
We faced major challenges in the two sessions. One was the programming issue: because this was being done for the first time in the country and there was no equivalent for it. In the area of importing raw materials and equipment, we faced many difficulties due to the sanctions, but we managed to move forward with the work in any way we could.
Did currency fluctuations not cause any problems during the production process?
خوشبختانه پروژه اداره پست در سال ۱۳۹۹ کلید خورد و در بهمن ماه ۱۴۰۰ به بهره برداری رسید و در طول این پروژه با معظل نوسان ارز کمتر برخورد داشتیم. اما ازانجا که ۸۰ درصد خریدهای مورد نیاز را پیش از آن و در یک بازه شش هفت ماهه که بازار ارز نسبتا باثبات تر بود انجام داده بودیم پروژه خیلی تحت تاثیر این قضیه قرار نگرفت. برای موضوع خرید لوازم و مواد اولیه مشکل ما بیشتر طولانی شدن روند تخصیص ارز و ترخیص کالاهایی که داشتیم بود. البته موضوع نوسان ارز در پروژه فرودگاهی که آن را طی سال های ۱۳۹۷ تا ۱۳۹۹ انجام دادیم تاثیرگذار بود و زیان بسیار زیادی به بدنه شرکت ما وارد کرد.
